To help you make the most of your time in the Ourso College, we created a year-by-year checklist to help boost your career readiness and enhance your time at LSU. First-year Checklist
- Activate your Navigate account.
- Meet with your academic counselor, either in University College or the Office of Business Student Success.
- Attend an involvement fair and join a student organization. Check out our Ourso Orgs!
- Don't be afraid to talk to new people.
- Read the Ourso Experience newsletter each week.
- Take advantage of tutoring, supplemental instruction, workshops, and other services from the Center for Academic Success.
- Activate your Handshake account.
- Explore on-campus employment to develop your “Ready to Roar” competencies.
- Explore “What Can I Do With This Major?”
- Use Handshake to make an appointment with a member of our professional development staff to create or update your résumé.
- Connect with professionals in your field at lectures, table sits, and events. Find details in the Ourso Experience newsletter and in our Instagram stories. Be sure to give us a follow!
- Get a free professional headshot at our Professional Prep event or another opportunity on campus.
- Find a mentor, whether an older student or someone in the Ourso College.
- Take advantage of your professor's office hours.
- Apply for scholarships. Look for an email with details late in the fall semester.
Sophomore Checklist
- Meet with your academic counselor in the Office of Business Student Success.
- Start your internship search. Checkout search resources and use Handshake to make an appointment with our professional development team.
- Complete a mock interview and review the Olinde Career Center's interview prep tips and guides.
- Get noticed by creating or polishing your LinkedIn account. Quinncia, available through the Olinde Career Center, can help make your profile shine.
- Attend the LSU Career Expo and other career events.
- Join the Ourso College Slack Channel.
- Don't have a headshot? Attend the Professional Prep Workshop for a free professional photo following your résumé review.
- Read the Ourso Experience newsletter each week.
- Consider taking a leadership role within your student org.
- Connect with professionals in your field at lectures, table sits, and events.
- Take advantage of your professor's office hours.
- Apply for scholarships. Look for an email with details late in the fall semester.
Junior Checklist
- Take the Business Communication & Professional Development course (GBUS 3061).
- Meet with your Office of Business Student Success academic counselor and confirm your graduation plans.
- Join the OBSS Mentoring Program.
- Connect with employers at the Career Expo & Business Networking Reception.
- Intern. The OBSS professional Development team is here to help with your search.
- Get out there with an International Experience.
- Attend a conference or test your skills at a business competition.
- Take a leadership position on campus.
- Apply for the Ourso Outstanding Eight.

- Connect with professionals in your field at lectures, table sits, and events.

Senior Checklist
- Meet with your academic counselor and the OBSS Professional Development team.
- Haven’t attended a Professional Prep Workshop? Add it to your calendar and prepare to shine.
- Tell your network that you are in the job market.
- Connect with the Office of Graduate Business Programs to explore options for continuing your studies.
- Attend the Career Expo & Business Networking Reception.
- Connect with professionals in your field at lectures, table sits, and events.
- Apply for the Ourso Outstanding Eight.
- Read the Ourso Experience newsletter each week.
- Take the graduating student survey to let us know where you’ll geaux and how we can stay in touch.
- Join the college's alumni chapter.
- Walk across the stage and receive your degree!
